Two Songs for Mixed Choir op. 104 was composed in Espoo, Finland. They are based on poems by the Peruvian-Finnish writer Maritza Núñez. Kyllönen visited a couple of times in Peru. He composed the Two Songs for Children´s Choir op.10 a and b in 1987. In 2025 he decided to do a new arrangement of the work for Esbo Arbis Chamber Choir. The composer conducted the first performance of Mollecito de la puna op. 104 a, and Son de Ña Panchita op. 104 b in May of 2025.
Mollecito de la puna is melancholic-lyrical. The work is colored by piano and two typical Peruvian percussion instruments: the tinya (little drum) and the sonajas (goat´s claws). These instruments create the atmosphere of the Andes in the composition. Ña Panchita is contrasting glad and dancing. The Peruvian cajón (box) and the cajita (little box) are used in this song. (Percussion instrument alternatives are mentioned with.). They express the passionate Afro-Peruvian beat of the coast, which is reflected in the poem as well. The first performance of the work took place in Espoo 10.5.2025, by the Esbo Arbis Chamber Choir, conducted by the composer.
